Off-Season “Michael Kors” Score!

Posted on

So yesterday, I was in Macy’s just itching to use a 20% OFF coupon that was about to expire, and look at what I found! Aren’t they just adorable? The original price for my new Michael Kors, MK Logo, Rain Boots was $98.00, and they were marked down to and even $58.00. However, I was able to use my 20% OFF coupon, which normally does not happen thanks to that annoying fine print on the back of said coupon, but it worked! So, I paid less than $47.00 for the boots.

I know that they are out of season, so it will be a few months before I can wear them. I just wanted to show you guys, (mostly Jen), that it really does pay to shop in the off-season. Not to mention, the same exact boots are still being sold online at the original price.

At Neiman Marcus they are still $89.00

At Nordstrom’s they are $98.95

At Zappo’s they are $99.00

Even at Macy’s online, they are still regular price at $98.00! Wth is that about!?!

I’m going to stop by KOP when I leave work this evening to see what else I can score. Happy Thursday!

DAMN, Dr. Dre!

Okay, so I was scanning my son’s “High School Graduation Gift Wish List “, (yes he created a wish list, but it may have something to do with the fact that he knows he will be a broke college student later this year, so I think the list is a form of insurance.)

Now, back to Mr. Andre (Dr. Dre)Young! One of the items on my son’s list is Beats by Dr. Dre, um, call me crazy, but I didn’t know they garnered a price tags that hovers around $299.00! WOW!

Honestly, I don’t know what I expected them to cost, and considering I walk a fine line between being frugal and downright cheap, I fail to understand why the headphones cost so much.

However, I’m sure Dr. Dre, and the Beats stakeholders could care less that I will NOT spend nearly $300.00 on headphones because I’m not their target market.

Speaking of marketing, it was genius, as it relates to the Beats brand. Did you know that HTC paid over $300 million for a 51% share in the company!?! Damn, Dre…(Read More)

Michael Kors Girls’ “Laurine” Boots for $30.00!

Some of my readers, and friends, think I am absolutely crazy to share some of the information that I do considering that I own my own online storefront. However, I love to be a resource of information! Besides, there are just some deals that I have to pass on, but that doesn’t mean I want everybody to miss out.

For instance, I just received this email stating that these Michael Kors Girls “Laurine” Boots have been marked down to $30.40. Now, I don’t sell shoes in my store that often, and I also purchase all of my products in bulk for a better profit margin. But I haven’t always purchased in bulk, which is why nearly every email I receive is “sale” related.

Happy Small-Business Week!

Posted on

Happy Small-Business Week everybody! And speaking of small-business, according to recent news reports, running a small-business is three times as stressful as raising a child. I don’t know if I would go that far…however, it may be equally as stressful as raising one teenager.

At any rate, I wouldn’t trade being a small-business owner for anything—stress and all. Besides, I can’t think of any stress free careers, so if you are going to have stress anyway, shouldn’t you be doing what you love? Of course you should!

When I decided to open Bring-to-Fruition, I expected stress and fear to be par for the course. So I knew I would have to find productive ways to “do it afraid” and ways to manage my stress. I have created myriad ways to deal with stress, but exercise—mostly cardio—keeps my head clear so I am able to focus on the challenges at hand.

Because we all have unique ways to win the battle against stress, I thought it would be interesting to see how a few extremely successful people micromanage stress. Read the rest of this entry

Rest In Peace Donna Summer…

I was beyond shocked when I received the tragic news a few minutes ago that Donna Summer has died. When I was growing up, I used to live for Donna Summer! And ironically, I would stop whatever I was doing to watch the “She Works Hard For the Money” video. Loved it–and her! She will definitely be missed, Rest In Paradise, Donna…

What Would Oprah Say?

Posted on

“So, how’s that balance working out?” This was the first thing I read—via text—this morning. The author, (initially just a customer), is a friend of mine, who has a penchant for not sugarcoating situations. Her skill of “speaking the truth” was the reason her text message had a sarcastic tone. Basically, she was calling me out for still not quite getting this work/life balance right.

Can I get mad at her for telling the truth? Of course not! My friend is absolutely right, I still SUCK at my work/life balance. Hell, I haven’t even updated my blog for nearly a week, so I can’t even hide it from you. (lol)

I will have you know though, I’m doing a little better this week. Yet and still, I’ve decided to blame my work/life balance struggle on Oprah! You all know that if “The Oprah Show” was still on the air, the majority of her shows would be dedicated to empowering women. And I know she would have had more than enough experts sitting on her iconic couch providing epiphanies directly related to life balance.

Well, even though “The Oprah Show” is no longer around to help me navigate this problem, I still have the “O Magazine” website to turn to for an impromptu “Aha Moment.” So for some afternoon tongue in cheek humor, I decided to see what Oprah’s site suggested I do to create my work/life balance. Have You Seen My Equilibrium?

Posted on

My life’s equilibrium has been completely OFF all week! No, I take that back—it’s been off for more than a month or so. Granted, balancing a day job, being an entrepreneur, and, most importantly, being a mother is a daily challenge. Yet, it’s a challenge where I am normally the victor. This week, however, I feel like the victim.

But “Don’t cry for me Argentina,” I am the person responsible for turning myself into life’s prey. Normally, I follow all the “rules” associated with the work/life balance. I keep everything organized, I follow a schedule, I delegate, and I turn my “day job” cellphone off at 6:07 p.m., Monday through Friday, without fail. For some strange reason, however, I have broken each one of these rules, at least twice, since this week started—and it’s only Hump Day. So, why am I surprised that I’m stressed? Which Company Has Next?

Posted on

Okay, so in the land of New York Times make-believe, I am a venture capitalist residing in Silicon Valley and I have to put my money behind the company I think will be the next big start-up. Decisions…decisions.

Honestly, I am a little bias because I LOVE Pinterest! However, it is such a time suck, but now I set a timer that goes off after thirty minutes to remind me to get back to work! If I’m focused on my bottom line though, this insight would also result in my choice being Pinterest.  There is just so much value in sharing resources, so although I think some of the other companies like Pinwheel and Airtime have promise, they could very easily be merge with other existing organizations. I feel the same way about Square, so my money is on PinterestRead more…

How Important is a “Thank You” to You?

My small business would have never matured from its infancy stage had it not been for two words: Thank You!

In the beginning, I put all of my savings into starting Bring-To-Fruition, and then after that, every penny I earned went back into the business. So, needless to say, there wasn’t a lot of money spent on marketing. I relied solely on prayer and word-of-mouth marketing to garner business.

I have also listened, been courteous, and went out of my way to make my customers feel special. A practice I continue to do today. (Actually, I think this was a gift honed during my stint as a bartender! Who knew being a bartender would not only help me pay for my degree, but also help my small business thrive, as well as being a great networking resource.) Read the rest of this entry
